These are all commissions I have specifically asked the artists to create for me. I have been really happy with the results of these and I am usually in the process of getting a few commissions done at any given time. I find most artists are more than happy to tackle a classic theme like Jungle girls and often put a little more into it since they enjoy it. My favorites are by Guy Davis, Vince Locke and Jim Keefe, all of which seem somewhat unusual choices but are among my favorite artists and they have gone over and above the call of duty on these pieces.
Gladys the Hippo Lady is a sunglasses-wearing, stretch pants sporting hippopotamus with whom Rocko would often collide in Season 1 episodes and get in her way. She would utter her catchphrase, "How dare you!" at this juncture, which is always in a deep, manly voice, in total contrast to her unnerving high-pitched voice. In the Season 4 episode, "Dumbbells", she drags Rocko on a " ding-dong ditch " frenzy after catching Rocko, Heffer, and Filburt trying to pull the prank on her and finds it hilarious. In her first episode on the beach, she was briefly very apologetic to Rocko when she asked him to help her apply sunscreen.
Wolfe adopted wearing a white suit as a trademark in 1962. He bought his first white suit, planning to wear it in the summer, in the style of Southern gentlemen . However, he found that the suit he purchased was too heavy for summer use, so he wore it in winter, which created a sensation. At the time, white suits were supposed to be reserved for summer wear. Wolfe has maintained this as a trademark ever since. He sometimes accompanies it with a white tie, white homburg hat, and two-tone shoes. Wolfe has said that the outfit disarms the people he observes, making him, in their eyes, "a man from Mars, the man who didn't know anything and was eager to know."
